Sidebar Page Sections

Download Version 1.0.2 | Need Help?

This plugin allows you, the blog owner/maintainer, to add an unlimited number of new widgets to your sidebars.

There are two types of widgets this plugin currently supports.

  1. A list of Pages and their sub pages
  2. A named text block

The first type is useful for people who are using WordPress primarily as a content management platform. It gives you the ability to list different pages out in different sections (blocks or widgets).

On the widget properties enter a list of Page ID numbers separated with commas, the title of the block, and a css class to apply to the title tag. Page ID numbers can be found on the Manage -> Pages screen.

The second type is useful to replace the generic text blocks that come with the Widget plugin. The built in text blocks lack manageability in that they don't have names visible on the management screen. They work exactly the same as the built in text widgets except that you configure them on the plugin options screen (see screen shot). Also, you can have any number of them - there is no limit except for your ability to manage them.

Installation Instructions for first time installs:

  1. Unzip the zip file on your local computer.
  2. Upload the plugin file to the plug-ins folder in your WordPress installation.
i.e. If your blog web address is www.example.com/blog/ then your plug-in folder most likely is blog/wp-content/plugins/

    You should end up with
    blog/wp-content/plugins/tppSidebarPageSections.php

  3. Activate the plugin.

  4. That's it!

Upgrade Instructions:

  1. Deactivate existing plugin.

  2. Upload the new version per the instructions above, overwriting the existing file.

  3. Activate.

  4. That's it!

Usage Instructions:

  1. Under the Presentation menu, click Sidebar Page Sections.

  2. The title tag option is only used for Page Sections - Text blocks use the settings from the widget code. This will be removed in a future version and this option will be removed. For now I recommend using h2

  3. Both boxes create widgets that show up on the main widget screen (Presentation -> Sidebar Widgets)

  4. The different boxes create different widgets (see screen shots above)
